FAQ concerning insurance policies
What insurance covers are compulsory in Luxembourg?

You must be insured against civil liability, that is to say you must be covered for damage and/or bodily injury that you could cause to others.

If you have a car, civil liability insurance is also compulsory.

If you rent a place to live, the landlord will most certainly ask you to take out home insurance for yourself.

Is home insurance compulsory?

Home insurance is not compulsory, but in the context of home rental, the landlord may ask you to take out home insurance.

Moreover, in the event of a claim, if you are not insured, you will have to pay for any damage and/or bodily injury that you cause.

What about health insurance?

Any student who is not covered by health insurance in their home country must register with the Joint Social Security Centre (Centre Commun de la Sécurité sociale).

It is also possible to register with the CNS (Caisse Nationale de Santé).

 

Is my driving licence valid in Luxembourg?

If you are a national of an EU or EEA country, your licence is valid in Luxembourg without the need to change or register it.

Otherwise, the licence must be registered with the SNCA (Société Nationale de Circulation Automobile) within one year as of the moment when you establish residence in Luxembourg.
